Titanium dioxide is a widely used pigment in various industries, including paint, plastics, and paper. It is known for its excellent opacity, brightness, and UV-resistance, making it a popular choice for manufacturers looking to enhance the quality and durability of their products.

In the plastics industry, titanium dioxide is added to polymer resins to enhance their whiteness and brightness. This is particularly important for products that are exposed to sunlight or harsh environmental conditions, as the pigment helps to prevent yellowing and deterioration over time. TiO2 is also used in food packaging materials to create a white appearance that is appealing to consumers. The Versatile World of Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is used in a variety of personal care products, including sunscreens, pressed powders, and loose powders, as a UV filter or whitening agent. In lotions and creams (dermal exposure), it is not a risk for adverse health effects. However, when titanium dioxide is inhalable—as it may be when in powder form—it is considered a possible carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.Titanium dioxide nanoparticles do not appear to confer any unique health hazards.

As mentioned above, these oxide NPs are harmful in part because both anatase and rutile forms are semiconductors and produce ROS. Particularly, P25 kind has band-gap energies estimated of 3.2 and 3.0 eV, equivalent to radiation wavelengths of approximately 388 and 414 nm, respectively. Irradiation at these wavelengths or below produces a separation of charge, resulting in a hole in the valence band and a free electron in the conduction band, due to the electron movement from the valence to conduction bands. These hole–electron pairs generate ROS when they interact with H2O or O2 [43,44]. It was described that they can cause an increase in ROS levels after exposure to UV-visible light [45]. The NBT assay in the studied samples showed that bare P25TiO2NPs produce a large amount of ROS, which is drastically reduced by functionalization with vitamin B2 (Fig. 5). This vitamin, also known as riboflavin, was discovered in 1872 as a yellow fluorescent pigment, [46] but its function as an essential vitamin for humans was established more than sixty years later, and its antioxidant capacity was not studied until the end of the XX century [47,48]. This antioxidant role in cells is partially explained because the glutathione reductase enzyme (GR) requires it for good functionality. This enzyme is the one in charge of the conversion of oxidized glutathione to its reduced form which acts as a powerful inner antioxidant and can quench the ROS [49,50]. The cost of this action is that the glutathione is converted to the oxidized form and needs to be recovered by the GR. Consequently, the cells need more vitamin B2. Another glutathione action is the protection against hydroperoxide. This activity is also mediated by riboflavin. Therefore, local delivery of this vitamin seems to significantly help the cells in their fight to keep the oxidative balance, once they are exposed to high levels of ROS.

Similarly, ABC Industries is another well-established supplier, recognized for their sustainable sourcing practices and innovative production techniques. On November 23, 2022, the General Court of the European Union reversed the conclusion that titanium dioxide was carcinogenic and released a statement (1,2):

First, the Commission made a manifest error in its assessment of the reliability and acceptability of the study on which the classification was based and, second, it infringed the criterion according to which that classification can relate only to a substance that has the intrinsic property to cause cancer.

As part of our mission at CRIS we base our safety assessments on the currently available scientific evidence and consider many variables (e.g., study quality, journal of publication, etc.), even if it goes against previous conclusions. Evidence-informed decisions making is critical to ensure that the laws and regulations put into place are for the benefit of the population.

The EU General Court maintains that the scientific evidence presented wasn’t the complete picture for the ingredient, “in the present case, the requirement to base the classification of a carcinogenic substance on reliable and acceptable studies was not satisfied.

In conclusion, China's Tio2 pigment industry plays a pivotal role in the global market, not just in terms of volume but also in setting trends and influencing pricing strategies. As the world continues to grapple with economic and environmental challenges, China's ability to balance growth with sustainability will be a key factor in determining the future trajectory of the Tio2 pigment industry.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is commonly applied to enhance the white colour and brightness of food products. TiO2 is also used as white pigment in other products such as toothpaste. A small fraction of the pigment is known to be present as nanoparticles (NPs). Recent studies with TiO2 NPs indicate that these particles can have toxic effects. In this paper, we aimed to estimate the oral intake of TiO2 and its NPs from food, food supplements and toothpaste in the Dutch population aged 2 to over 70 years by combining data on food consumption and supplement intake with concentrations of Ti and TiO2 NPs in food products and supplements. For children aged 2-6 years, additional intake via ingestion of toothpaste was estimated. The mean long-term intake to TiO2 ranges from 0.06 mg/kg bw/day in elderly (70+), 0.17 mg/kg bw/day for 7-69-year-old people, to 0.67 mg/kg bw/day in children (2-6 year old). The estimated mean intake of TiO2 NPs ranges from 0.19 μg/kg bw/day in elderly, 0.55 μg/kg bw/day for 7-69-year-old people, to 2.16 μg/kg bw/day in young children. Ninety-fifth percentile (P95) values are 0.74, 1.61 and 4.16 μg/kg bw/day, respectively. The products contributing most to the TiO2 intake are toothpaste (in young children only), candy, coffee creamer, fine bakery wares and sauces. In a separate publication, the results are used to evaluate whether the presence of TiO2 NPs in these products can pose a human health risk.

The global TiO2 market is influenced by factors such as fluctuating raw material prices, environmental regulations, and technological advancements. Suppliers need to adapt to these changes, investing in sustainable production methods and developing new, efficient grades of TiO2.
The mining and extraction of titanium ore are usually carried out in mineral-rich areas where titanium deposits are found. The extracted ore is then purified using various chemical processes to remove impurities and obtain pure titanium dioxide. Once the titanium dioxide is obtained, it is milled and processed to produce the final pigment in the desired form, such as powder or slurry. In the world of manufacturing, the combination of talc and titanium dioxide is a match made in heaven. These two minerals, when used together, can significantly enhance the performance and quality of various products. Talc, known for its softness and lubricating properties, provides excellent slip resistance and reduces friction, making it an ideal additive for plastics, rubber, and coatings. Titanium dioxide, on the other hand, is a powerful pigment that imparts strength, durability, and UV protection to products. In terms of manufacturers, there is a select group that stands out for their commitment to quality, innovation, and reliabilitylithopone 30% pricelist manufacturers. Titanium dioxide can form several different shapes, which have different properties. Some shapes can be converted to nanomaterials. Micronized TiO2 (also called “nano” or “nanoparticles”) was introduced in the early 1990s.Nanotechnology and micronization both refer to the practice of creating very small particles sizes of a given material. “Nanoparticles” usually refers to particles smaller than 100 nanometers; a nanometer is 1/1 billionth of a meter. At these small sizes, and at low concentrations, titanium dioxide appears transparent, allowing for effective sunscreens that do not appear white.

Ceramic industries also thrive on the unique qualities of wholesale TI02 powder. When integrated into the production process, this powder improves the strength and durability of ceramic items, making them more resistant to wear and tear. It also contributes to the material's overall porcelain elegance, adding a touch of luxury to mundane objects.
  • Utility Requirements and Costs
  • Numerous studies have linked titanium dioxide to genotoxicity and cytotoxicity. Genotoxicity refers to a chemical’s potential to cause DNA damage, which can, in turn, lead to cancer. Cytotoxicity is a general term that refers to a characteristic of being harmful to cells.
